We have TWO BOOK CLUBS.
One group meets the FIRST MONDAY* of each month and the second group meets the
LAST WEDNESDAY* of each month - different people, same format. We take it in turns to choose a book for the group to read which means there is a huge range of genre to enjoy.
The first part of the meeting (around an hour) we discuss the storyline, the charachters, the themes and topics within the narrative. Different readers identify diffrent elements in the same book. We frequently agree that the books are more enjoyable after our discussions as so much more comes to light.
Would you like to come to a meeting? Come on your own or come with a friend. (You can call ahead and meet-up with a member before joining the group. Tel 01252 843190
This event is free - no membership or subscription fees.
* Bank Holiday and Public Holidays may change the date.
APRIL BOOK CHOICE for
WEDNESDAY BOOK CLUB
THE NAMES
by Florence Knapp
Set against the backdrop of the "Great Storm" of 1987 in the UK, the story uses a sliding doors structure to explore how a single, seemingly administrative decision - naming a newborn child - can fundamentally alter the trajectories of multiple lives.
The novel begins with Cora Atkin, a mother and former dancer trapped in an abusive marriage with a well-respected doctor, Gordon. Her husband demands she follow family tradition and name their newborn son after him.
We next meet on Wednesday 29 April - 7.30pm at
The Nightjar. You are very welcome.
